Residential Single Stream Recycling
Here in Windsor, blue is the new green
Meet Big Blue! It’s the Single-Stream Recycling rolling cart that will be delivered to your home during the week of June 23rd.
Automated collection enables you to quickly, easily and responsibly dispose all of your recyclables in one convenient, light-weight cart.
What’s recyclable? Here’s what you should put in Big Blue every other week:
- Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, phone books
- Paper, paperboard, cardboard, paper bags
- Hard and soft cover books
- Rinsed glass and metal food containers
- Rinsed aluminum foil, cans, juice and milk cartons
- Rinsed plastic containers marked #1 through #7.
Household garbage goes in your green cart for collection every week:
- Food waste
- Plastic bags, plastic wrap and trash bags
- Styrofoam and Polystyrene
- Empty motor oil containers, empty medicine bottles, non-fluorescent light bulbs
- CDs and DVDs
- Ice cream cartons
- Pots, pans, coat hangers and garden tools.
We are enhancing our Single-Stream Recycling and automated curbside pickup.
It’s easy! Here’s how it works:
- Put the Big Blue cart with your recyclables out at the curb every other week. (Note: Allow 2 feet distance from curb, mailbox, trash barrels and etc.) See the calendar inside to help you remember which week recyclables will be collected.
- Use the Big Blue rolling cart to collect all of your recyclables. The small orange recycling container we used in the past is yours to keep and use any way you like, or put it in Big Blue to be recycled.
- Use your current green rolling cart for garbage and continue to put it out at the curb by 7 AM every week on the same day you do now. No change there!
Remember, put Big Blue out every other week on the same day of the week you put your garbage out now. Here’s a calendar to remind you which weeks you should put your Single-Stream Recycling rolling cart out at the curb. As in the past, schedules are delayed one day following a holiday (blue).
